On Tuesday, we celebrated the birthday of our fearless leader and principal, Mrs. Klich. As a thank you for ALL that she does for the families, students, and teachers of St. Matthias, we decided to give her an extra special present. The middle school students made cards in their advisories and created a collection of coupons to help lighten the load for Mrs. Klich. Look out for the students as they step up to be extra sets of hands around St. Matthias.
This week, St. Matthias students participated in a variety of special days in honor of Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated in schools throughout the nation to promote alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence awareness. On Wednesday, St. Matthias students and teachers wore red to demonstrate our commitment to respecting ourselves and others. Other Red Ribbon events included wearing sunglasses to "Shade out Drugs" and wearing sports gear to "Be on the Drug Free Team".

The sixth grade students are wrapping up their unit of study on ancient Egypt. Each student adopted the role of an Egyptologist digging on site in the Valley of the Kings. They selected a historical figure, researched independently, and created a model of a tomb to present their findings to the class. Today, many students put the finishing touches on their tombs. Please look for an email next week to see when we will display the projects!
(Clearly, I would not have done well in shop class...)
Ms. Scheiber guided the seventh grade through a hands-on (and hopefully "gloves-on") activity in science class. Students dissected owl pellets, sifting carefully through the material for bones in order to reconstruct a skeleton.
In religion, the sixth and seventh grade students focused on "suspected saints", individuals who exemplify kindness and holiness in their own lives. Next time you visit Dank Haus, keep an eye out for these "suspected saints" on our bulletin board!
To conclude the week of festivities, students participated in Spooky Sports Day with Ms. Sagert and Halloween games with Ms. Denten, Mrs. Prinzivalli, Ms. Nolan, and Ms. Scheiber. Thank you to all of the teachers and parents who helped make this a special day for our students!
Happy Halloween!!
