Unit -Food from Around the World, Grade 6
Sixth grade students brought in family/cultural recipes and scaled amounts of ingredients to serve a family, an individual, and a large gathering of 150 – 300 people.
Unit - Would you like to "Look Like an Egyptian" Grade 6
Following the law of proportion that the Ancient Egyptians used to draw their figures, the 6th grader students created some modern day Egyptans. Additionally by following the steps of Art Criticism students discovered the meaning of the tomb wall painting “Fowling the Marshes,” that of providing activities in the afterlife to those depicted in the scene.
Unit - Economics: Trading around the World, Grade 8
Students researched a country of their choice, focusing on raw materials, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), major imports and exports. Using this information, students developed hypothetical trade relationships with other countries.
Welcome to "Recipes of the World" Grade 8
8th grade is presenting, in Spanish, some of their favorite recipes and the most delicious plate of food in the world. This is one way we can enjoy and appreciate cultures from around the world.
Unit - Sports Around the World: “Bumball" Grades 6 - 8
The students played Bumball, a velcro-ball game where they were only allowed to catch the ball off the velcro on their vests. It was created in Denmark, Europe. In P.E. class, the students learned the rules and had the chance to play a game they had no experience with playing before, encouraging them to be open-minded and risk takers.
Unit - Evolution and the History of the Barbellus Species, Gr. 7
Seventh grade students use knowledge of natural selection and classification to correctly order the decendents of a single species of Barbellus.
Unit – Science Fair, Grades 6 - 8
Students used the scientific process to design and conduct their own science projects for our IB Science Fair. Listen to descriptions of the projects of our 2015 winner!
8th Grade Unit - Music Composition with Musical Chairs
Eighth grade students partnered with Musical Chairs Studio to learn how to create and produce an original music composition. Through the process they learned about the interplay of rhythm, harmony, melody and how to use digital audio workstation software.
7th Grade Unit – Ballroom Dance with Dancing with Class
Seventh grade students partnered off for a 10 week unit on “Dancing with Class”. In it they learned several ballroom dances, their cultural origins, and proper dance etiquette. Our 7th graders can now dance the Fox Trot, Swing, Merengue, and Paso Doble. They then competed in a Catholic Schools Dance-Off.
6th Grade Unit – Improv with Piven Theater
Sixth grade students partnered with Piven Theater to learn how to build community through improvisational and ensemble theater. They learned about verbal and nonverbal communication and how to collaborate for a common, and fun, purpose.
Unit - Decision-Making in Times of Injustice, Grade 8
This unit is about more than the Holocaust. It's about prejudice, discrimination and scapegoating; but it's also about human dignity, morality, law and citizenship. Students rethink, reflect, and reason with history through literature about civic courage and justice. They learn the importance of choosing to participate in their world today and to memorialize those who did in the past.
Unit - Global Influence of Rock & Jazz Music, Grade 7
Travelers will take a tour through time to explore how a few great pioneers paved the way for Jazz and Rock music to develop in America. Discover how immigrents from Europe and Africa created these amazing musical genres!
Unit – Spring Break 2015, Grade 6
Students plan a future trip to another country over their Spring Break. Utilizing computer applications, they developed a detailed itinerary and budget.
