the myp experience

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) consists of grades 6 through 10. At St. Matthias, we offer the first three years of the programme to junior high students.

The fundamental concepts of an IB MYP education are:

  • Holistic Learning - Students learn by inquiring about the world around them. Teachers collaborate to plan interdisciplinary units so that students understand how the subject areas connect.
  • Intercultural Awareness - Students explore content through various cultural lenses with the goal of becoming globally-minded citizens who will work to create a more peaceful and just world.
  • Communication - Communication, through speech, writing, and art, is emphasized throughout the curriculum.  Students reflect regularly on their academic and personal development.

The IB Learner Profile is a set of values that the IB student works to understand and embody. MYP students and teachers are constantly referencing these ten values and consciously working to develop in these areas.

IB learners strive to be:
  • Inquirers

  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective
