On Monday, the IB team welcomed the junior high students back to St. Matthias for another school year. To promote team-building and camaraderie within the grade levels, students participated in a variety of activities based around the IB Learner Profile. From playing "Finish the Lyric" with Mrs. Reckamp to balancing their best during Tug of War, the students proved that they can live out these character traits in their daily lives. We look forward to a successful year of IB learning at the Dank Haus!
On Wednesday, the junior high students gathered during morning meeting to learn about behavior expectations and rewards for the new school year. Drawing inspiration from the Harry Potter series, the MYP teachers "sorted" all junior high students into six houses. These six houses will compete for possession of The Mustang Cup in each trimester. Students in these six houses can earn house points in the following ways:
- 1 Raffle Ticket = 1 House Point (Raffle tickets are earned for: good behavior, helping peers or teachers, exemplifying IB Learner Profile Traits)
- Behavior Card with 0 Hole Punches = 2 House Points (Perfect academics and behavior earn your house two points!)
- Behavior Card with 1 Hole Punch = 1 House Point (Everyone makes mistakes... Let's keep on track and aim to get ZERO hole punches next week!)
- House Cup Competitions = Point systems vary depending on the game
