We welcomed back our students in person on Monday! We were so happy to see them! There are a lot of new safety changes that have been implemented to keep our teachers, students, and staff safe. First, masks are required at all times on campus. When we have recess outside in our cohorts and students are far enough apart they can have a mask break. Second, there are staggered arrival times in the morning so students don’t arrive all at the same time. Our JH students enter through the playground doors where they are met by a staff member that takes their temperature, asks them how they are feeling, and gives the hand sanitizer. Third, our classrooms look a lot different not just because we are back at the main campus, take a look at the next posts for more insight. The theme for this school year is “We are called...” At St. Matthias we are called to do so many things from being a good friend to take on challenges. To remind ourselves to take on these challenges, the 8th graders made signs to remind us daily about what we are called to do as a group. Then they turned to some personal challenges and made notes to remind themselves that they can do it! There will be a fair share of challenges this year, but we are called to take them on! We had a really hot week for the first week of school so we went outside as much as we could! Here our 8th graders went outside to the Garden for some time to read their independent reading books. It was a great way to cool off and get some reading in! It was great seeing everyone in PE this week! We started the school year with interactive social distancing games that involved listening and communication skills. Looking forward to another exciting year in PE!! 7th graders took on the Four 4’s task this week in Math. This challenged them to use their orders of operation skills and number sense to create all the numbers 1-20. Our 7th graders were such successful mathematicians that they took on 21-40 also! They did a great job explaining their thought process to collaborate with their classmates.
