2.19 // No School - President's Day
3.5 // Confirmation for 8th grade
This Valentine's Day week, students showed their love and appreciation for all of the things they've been learning. Here are a few of those things... Seventh graders designed and conducted their own experiments to investigate the importance of chewing food to aid digestion. They used antacid tablets to represent food, physically broke the tablets to mimic chewing, and finally used vinegar to represent chemical breakdown in the stomach. The next step is to take their data and present it in a meaningful way - a data table and a graph - and then analyze what they learned. They've done a great job so far! In L&L, eighth graders finished their literature circles unit with their fourth and final literature circle. Students have enjoyed getting to learn about and discuss the lives of their authors while deepening their analysis skills. They also developed disciplined time-management skills by creating pacing calendars to plan out their reading time outside of school, as well as agendas for each literature circle session to make sure that they completed all of their work within the class period. With the hunger to learn, sixth grade simplified fractions this week! Each group was given a bag of “nacho chips” with fractions and had to separate them into bowls based on if they were in simplest form or not. We learned that there are many ways you can simplify fractions but using GCF is the most popular! Seventh graders began brainstorming for their Language and Literature summative assessments based on The Outsiders. They'll work to synthesize the lessons that our characters learned about putting up barriers and being outsiders with issues that they see in today's society. Have you ever thought about where all the rain water goes after it stops raining? Water cycles through Earth's crust, atmosphere, and oceans and is often collected in lakes, rivers, and underneath the surface as groundwater. 6th graders investigated groundwater and how water flows through different earth materials such as gravel and sand. They analyzed the difference between the two materials and observed what may have caused these changes. Mr. Williams took tech outside this week! Students took a brick and mortar approach to the projects they would usually create on their computers. Eighth grade has been working very hard in Spanish class to create their own Reusable & Competitive Games! They were asked to incorporate verb definitions, endings, pronouns & verb stems, and make sure their games would be able to adjust in accordance with new vocabulary in the future. We had so much fun competing and practicing our verbs! Looking ahead...
