3.16 // 8th Grade Confirmation
The 6th graders finished their fractions unit with a Baking project! Each student chose a recipe to make and convert the serving sizes to accommodate the class our a bigger group. Then they presented about how their process went. For most of the 6th graders, this was their first time baking so they learned a lot! Some students even brought in their final products for us to try! It was a week filled with learning and sugar! This Tuesday was Mardi Gras! The 8th graders took some time out of their afternoon to talk to the younger grades about the History of Mardi Gras. They made traditional masks with yellow, green, and purple. Then enjoyed a slice of Kings Cake, if your slice had a prize inside, it was meant to give you good luck! The 8th graders had so much fun! Dancing continued this week with the swing! The swing involves a lot of twisting, twirling, and includes the iconic “Shorty George” dance move. The 6th graders loved learning the swing because it was upbeat compared to the waltz of last week. They can wait to continue perfecting their moves! St. Matthias hosted their first ever quiz bowl tournament this week! Middle school quiz bowl puts science, history, literature, math, religion, and geography to the test in a competition style format. The new team won their first game of the tournament. Congratulations Paul, Courtney, Jeffrey, Andrei, Simon, Colton, and Addy! Student Voice Committee held a hot chocolate sale this Friday to raise money for their future projects. Thanks to everyone who bought a cup! Looking Ahead...
