8th graders are continuing their unit on Forces and Motion and relating these concepts to safety in vehicles. They learned about center of mass, or the point where an object's mass is distributed, and applied that concept by comparing various carts in a collision - one cart that was empty, one that had a high center of mass, and one that had a low center of mass. They found that having a low center of mass appears to be the safest type of vehicle. The 8th graders are also doing well when it comes to collecting data and following procedures! 7th graders took a break from our unit on Surface Area and Volume to review some of the concepts that they learned earlier in the year. Stations included a game of Battleship to review graphing points on a coordinate plane, exploring probability by flipping a coin, and a game of truth or dare questions to reenforce mean, median, mode, and range concepts. Students were very versatile when switching between these stations! We will get back to our unit next week! In L&L, eighth graders began presenting their Commonly Confused Words presentations. Each student facilitates a mini-lesson, game, and worksheet to help students remember the difference between words that we sometimes mix up in everyday conversation and academic writing. This Wednesday the Junior High participated in a Mustang Cup Competition to earn more points for their teams. Activities included a scavenger hunt, geography trivia, and a peep toss! After all of those events there was a tie for first second and third! As a tie breaker each team nominated one individual to participate in a duck walk. Students had to hold their ankles as they waddled across the room. Congratulations to all of the winning teams! We LOVE 70 degree days! Looking ahead...
