I want YOU for the U.S. army... These seventh grade superstars explored the world of propaganda in I&S this week. They analyzed examples of World War I propaganda from countries around the world, determining the purpose and message of these persuasive pieces. Whether reminding Australian men of their patriotic duty to serve Britain or asking American children to use their pocket change to support the war effort, these images contributed to an Allied victory. 5, 6, 7, 8... The sixth graders are sashaying, stepping, and swinging through their final dance classes. This week, Mr. Scott finalized the participants for each dance. We won't spoil the surprise -- you'll have to join us for the big event! The annual "Dancing with Class" competition will take place at DePaul College Prep on Thursday, March 23. Participating students must wear their green accessories and follow the dress code noted on the permission slip. Please ask Ms. Denten if you have any questions! Breathe in... breathe out... What exactly is in the air we exhale? Seventh grade investigated used their breath and the indicator bromothymol blue to find out! They also designed their own experiments to explore just what happens to our breath as we exercise. Pretty pistachio pudding... Ms. Denten's & Ms. Jensen's classes gathered to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a special treat! The eighth graders guided their buddies through the steps of this exciting experiment. First, they recorded their observations about the mystery ingredients in the bag. Then, they added milk to the mystery ingredients and watched the contents of the bag transform from white to bright green! Who knew pistachio pudding could be so scientific -- and fun! They raised HOW MUCH?! This year's Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart was a huge success! Together as a school, the students raised a grand total of $7,664.11! Ms. Sagert would like to personally thank and acknowledge the following junior high students who raised money for this year's event: Manny, Jonathan, Jeannie, Ella, and Kristin. Thank you! One slice of cherry, please... Seventh grade derived a formula for circumference using the ratio for Pi in math class this week. They used their reasoning skills to come up with strategies for measuring the circumference and diameter of circular objects in the room. They found the ratio of circumference to diameter for each of these objects and realized the ratios are equal to Pi! Next week, they'll begin applying their work on area and perimeter to design their own community center. Why did the chicken egg cross the road? Eighth grade started preparing their Cascarones -- decorated eggs filled with homemade confetti -- this week. Gracias to all parents who provided the eggs. Stay tuned for the next stage of the process next week! Looking ahead... -Join us for the school-wide talent show Friday, March 24 in the gym. Time TBA. -Spring break is March 25-April 2. Happy weekend!
