8th graders have been sharpening their skills with graphing lines in slope-intercept form. They made “stained glass windows” by writing equations, graphing them with the slope and y intercept, then coloring in the cross sections to imitate a stained glass window. On Thursday, they participated in a gallery walk to see all of their classmates projects. They even left positive comments about each of the final drafts. Look at how cool they turned out! 7th Grade Activists: As a final summative project for their Illinois Government Unit, 7th grade investigated an issue affecting Illinois. They then drafted letters to a state or local legislator. Research topics ranged from the plastic bag tax to gun violence. These student letters featured ideas on plastic straws, the state budget, and homelessness.
The 7th grade class was working on creating Cell Phone Covers. This project was inspired Georges Seurat’s fascination with the scientific and technological advances of his time. He incorporated the theory of Optical Blending into his new painting style called Pointillism. This style explores the different Properties of Color: Hue, Value, and Intensity. By using small dots of color, Students are able to create a gradation of color and value. This subtle change of color gives the image depth and form. Addition, these small dots of true colors keep the colors bright and vibrant. Mixing colors by Layering would make them darker and less clear. Something you never want your Cell Phones to be. Also, Thank you to Heather and Hannah for taking pictures! The 6th graders continued to dance this week and added swing dancing to their repertoire! That makes 3 dances that they are mastering. We love to see how enthusiastic and dedicated they are to learning these dance moves. Students are already talking about their final competition, we can’t wait to show off our moves! Students in 7th grade are planning a trip to a Spanish speaking country. They have $3000 and four days in their budget. They are looking up and researching about the country and places to visit. They're very into it! The Art of Marketing: 8th graders are creating package designs to learn how we as consumers can be persuaded and enticed into purchase a product. They learned the Persuasive Advertising Strategies of Logos, Ethos, and Pathos, which are used to sell a product. In addition they learned the Principle of Design Emphasis. With this they see how visual techniques are used to capture and focus our attention on a product. These techniques subconsciously draws us in and engage our interest. Looking Ahead...
