On Monday, the entire junior high journeyed to Schaumburg to participate in a service project at Feed My Starving Children. The students - joined by their teachers, principal, pastor, and several moms - spent the morning packing nutrient-rich meals for children in Haiti. After just two hours we packed 17,280 meals, which feeds 47 kids for an entire year! We had such a good time that we've already booked a trip back in the spring!
In religion, sixth grade has been studying the creation stories in Genesis and the Epic of Gilgamesh. To conclude the unit, the students wrote two-voice poems comparing and contrasting the stories from the perspective of the gods. They then presented the poems in class.
On Friday, the school anticipated St. Nicholas’s feast day with a blessing of candy canes. Sixth and seventh grade enjoyed their peppermint treats as they walked to Dank Haus for class. The eighth grade class spent the morning with Ms. O'Donnell's preschool class. After attending Mass together, they shared a treat of candy canes and hot chocolate. Then the students created mugs of hot chocolate, with marshmallows of course, as a craft. We love spending time with our buddies!
