The 6th graders applied their knowledge of fractions in a creative way this week by creating their own cookbook! We welcomed Mr. Omiatek into our class to help us design the cover and help us create cohesiveness throughout our pages. He read us some books that contained borders, repetition, and a color palette. Then students put together their mathematical and artistic knowledge to start creating their pages. Each student chose a country and a recipe that they are famous for. Then they researched other important components of that country to create their pages. Our completed cookbook will be on display and auctioned of in an upcoming SMS fundraiser so keep your eyes out for some delicious recipes from around the world! This week in PE, students started to learn about lacrosse. Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports in North America. The game originates from indigenous cultures and was used as a tribal game. Lacrosse focuses on hand eye coordination, spatial awareness, strength, power, and aim. Students learned basic lacrosse skills such as the scoop, cradle, along with throw and catch. Well done! A Net is not only something you kick a soccer ball into for a goal, but also a two dimensional pattern that can be folded to create a three dimensional figure. Our 7th grade mathematicians practiced drawing nets to create rectangular prisms and square pyramids. We collectively found out that making nets is harder than it looks and all students persevered in their creations. If you’re still reading it’s time for a quiz, what three dimensional shape has zero faces, zero edges, and zero vertices? If you know the answer, find Ms. Lyne some time this week and tell her the code word for a Mustang Buck! Let’s see how many can complete this covert mission! T-A-N-G-O! T-A-N-G-O! Dancing with class continued this week with the Tango! This dance is very different from the other dances we’ve learned as it’s more serious and dramatic in nature. Our 6th graders loved learning this dance with its change of pace. We are looking forward to what next week has in store for us! Looking Ahead...
