Blueprints are types of scale drawings used to represent a plan for a building. In the midst of our ratios and proportions unit, 7th graders looked at how ratios are used to determine how large walls and furniture is in real life based on a drawing. Then they took their rulers and made a scale drawing of our Dank Haus classroom and the music room at the main campus. Based on our different ratios, are drawings can be bigger or smaller. Next, the 7th graders are creating their own scale drawings! According to Forbes Magazine, only 10% of people enjoy public speaking, while 10% absolutely dread it. Around 80% of people get anxious, but with extra practice and training can use their adrenaline to improve their performance. At St. Matthias, we know communication both a skill and important trait in a learner. In I&S, 6th grade will soon be delivering presentations on their topics the have investigated about India. So this week, they practiced "Impromptu Speaking," getting over fears of standing in front of people, being stumped by a question they just received, and persevering! Decimals, percents, improper fractions, and mixed numbers can all represent the same amount. In 6th grade we are continuing to practice converting between all of these forms. This week we did a couple card sorts to test our math skills on the subject. This one below has students matching improper fractions to the correct mixed number. Then, ordering them all from least to greatest. It proved to be no easy task as our strategies changed throughout the period! Looking Ahead...
