5.15 - 5.18 // 8th grade trip to DC!
5.16 // 6th and 7th grade Field Trip
5.28 // Robert Crown Presentation
5.31 // 8th Grade Graduation @ 6:30pm
8th graders presented their completed MYP presentations this week! They have been researching and raising awareness for issues in our community since September. There were projects impacting our school community and projects impacting the greater Chicago community. The 8th graders were so well spoken as they presented to the entire JH. The 6th and 7th graders watched and wrote down some ideas for when they have to present their MYP project in the future. All of the 8th graders did a great job, all of your hard work really does pay off! Right before spring break, seventh grade do some optical illusion chalk drawing I'm not sidewalk outside of school. They attempted to create the illusion of depth through decreasing the size and changing the value and color of objects so that they appear to be three dimensional. The sixth grade class has enthusiastically been learning about jazz! They have researched the origins of jazz and how it came to be one of the most popular musical genres in the United States. Their research allowed them to explore many jazz instrumentalists and vocalists and present their findings to their classmates. It has been fun making connections to our Dancing unit and how swing music/dancing brought joy to a tumultuous time in American history. The sixth graders are definitely learning to appreciate jazz music. A church that is the seat of a Bishop is known as a Cathedral. There are many examples of Gothic Cathedrals from Chartres to the recently affected Notre Dame in Paris. 6th Grade learned about cathedral layouts and design elements, in particular advances that allowed for Cathedral structures to soar higher and higher like the pointed arch and flying buttress. We then investigated the different sacramental found in a church. They had the option to represent their knowledge in 2D or 3D form. Check out some of the 3D designs! What is the difference between theoretical and experimental probability? Seventh graders put that question to the test this week. They had multiple experiments with dice and this one with a spinner. Students first found the theoretical probability of spinning the spinner once and then tried to see if the experimental probability matched up. They discovered that they need to do a lot of trials in order to get these probabilities to match. Here are some pictures of them in the midst of their trials. A big day for some of our Junior High students! They created, designed, and presented on a product called Hands-On Helper through Big Shoulders’ Entrepreneur Program. Their product a steering wheel that alerts drivers when their hands are not on the wheel to promote safe driving. They did an amazing job and so did all of the other schools involved! #HandsOn Looking Ahead...
