Where in the world is 7th grade? We have some future building designers in seventh grade! Students made floor plans of Ms. Nolan's room using tape measures and their new knowledge of scale drawings and proportions. They will be using this on a larger scale and they begin their work on a dream trip around the world! Full of hot air Eighth grade competed to see who could transfer the most energy to an ice cube to melt it the fastest. They then drew models to depict the energy transfer at the molecular level. Next week they'll reverse the process and see who can best limit the process of energy transfer to preserve an ice cube! O Canada Eighth grade continued to read a memoir written by Geoffrey Canada, creator of the Harlem Children’s Zone. Students wrote arguments for or against characters’ decisions by using graphic organizers to help them write their responses. The three steps students followed were: "Re-read & take notes," "Free write," and "Organize and unify the final draft." Back in time... The eighth grade students traveled back in time to 1857 to plan an expedition to the Congo. Using their knowledge of economic terms such as scarcity and opportunity cost, they determined the best packing list to suit their needs. We'll see which group is most successful next week! Santa Claus came to town! On our last day before break, sixth grade got to visit their PreK buddies in Mrs. Contreras's class. We enjoyed making cookies together, hearing a story about the true meaning of Christmas, and even having a surprise visit from Santa and Delilah the elf! Hoops Eighth-grader Daniel put his MYP community project into action this afternoon with his winter games tournament. From the size and sound of the crowd, it was a huge success! Many thanks to Ms. Sagert and Mr. Omiatek for their assistance as supervisors. Looking ahead... January 16: MLK Day - No school January 17: Progress reports go home.
